Washing Gloves Using the Sink Method
Just like most personal items, it is important to take care and maintain for goalkeeper gloves. Taking care of goalkeeper gloves allows the gloves' latex to remain durable, have more grip longer, and removes the smell from the gloves. Washing gloves has multiple parts to it.
For this method, the goalkeeper will need these items: gloves, glove wash, towels, and a sink.
The first step of this method is to lay the towels out. I have one towel for each glove and an extra, large towel to lay all of the gloves on to dry. I personally wash my gloves in my washing room so I have the larger towel on the washer and dryer, and a towel on the floor for the glove.
The next step is to get the gloves out of the bag and wet one in the sink. The goalkeeper would want to run the water in the sink for the times that the gloves need to have water on them rather than filling the sink up with water. After wetting the gloves, the goalkeeper would want to wipe off as much dirt as possible without using the glove wash.
The next step is to put the glove wash on the gloves. The goalkeeper wants to put a little drop of glove wash in the middle of the palm and work it around to the rest of the latex. The goalkeeper would want to make sure to try to massage all the dirt out of the latex. If the backhand of the glove needs to be cleaned, the goalkeeper would put the glove wash in the middle of the backhand and work it around.
The next step is to rinse the glove. I first begin by filling up the glove with water and proceed to wipe the palm of the glove. This helps take out all of the dirt from the inside out. I then continue to rinse the glove from both on the palm and filling the glove up until there are no more suds from the glove wash.
Finally, the gloves need to be dried. The gloves should be wrung out in the sink and put into the towel that was set aside for each glove. Then the gloves need to be wrapped up in the towel and pressed to get the excess water out to make the gloves dry faster. I personally do this by stepping on the gloves but hands can be used if preferred. The gloves then are laid out on the large towel and set to dry for 24 hours.
Using these steps, the goalkeeper can properly take care of their gloves for optimum performance.
